New go cart track is being built at Vinton County Fairgrounds

A cooperative venture between Seitz Excavating of Londonderry, the Vinton County Engineers Office, and the Vinton County Junior Fair Board, is responsible for the construction of a new go cart track at the county fair grounds on State Route 93 north of McArthur. The track should be open this summer.

According to information provided to The Telegram by the Fair Board Member Paul Creech, Seitz is donating time, labor, and equipment; the Engineer's office is donating use of its front end loader, and the Fair Board is purchasing the fuel needed to construct the track.

The track will be dirt, an eighth of a mile long, and will feature a five-degree bank. The new facility will also have lighting installed and will have new seating.

Another part of the project will include a rotating racing schedule with the Jackson County Fair track in Wellston. The schedule should help both fair boards with camping rentals and will be a good working arrangement.

Fair Board Member Lawrence Wolfe explained the track would be used many times throughout the year and there will be featured races during the fair in July. Information about the races will be placed on the fair board's website, www.vintoncountyfair.org, and the county's website as well.

The new track is not the only change being made as the fairgrounds as the Fair Board is also working with County Development Director Ken Reed on a $100,000 project to replace the entertainment stage. The Fair board and Reed hope the stage can be ready for the 2010 fair.
